Your skin and airplanes is just a relationship that isn’t meant to be. Many things can happen to your skin when you’re thousands of feet up in the air, let alone if you’re in a long flight, or if you’re flying first class. Being in a compressed air environment with a lot of people is just never fun, so why not make it better for you AND your skin!
Over the years, I have gone on one too many flights and have since compiled the most simple yet effective array of cosmetics to bring with me on flight so that my skin isn’t a mess when I arrive (and for the week after). As I usually go on long flights, I tend to opt for the make up-free route and just rely on minimal products in order to keep my skin (and myself) as moisturised, relaxed, and fresh as possible.
Furthermore, here is my list of my travel essentials!
MY TRAVEL BEAUTY
•TEA TREE OIL
This is actually a holy grail of mine and I use all the time whether I’m traveling or not. Prior to flying I always seem to stress a little and I am never surprised to find a small pimple the day of, so I take this with me. I dab a bit of it on them and it tends to calm them down and soothe them, and it also smells amazing!
The one I have is from Boots and you can find it here:
Boots: Tea Tree Oil – £7.99
•VASELINE
The air in a cabin is very dry, and your skin isn’t the only one that suffers, your lips too! Combat dry lips with another well-known and trustworthy product, Vaseline! I like to keep two with me as one has a bit of a rosy tint, so I can pop that on if I feel like I want a bit of colour!
Vaseline: Lip Therapy Original – £1.95
Vaseline: Lip Therapy Rosy Lips – £1.95
•DEODORANT
I always try to bring my deodorant with me as I feel like when you’ve been on a plane for a while you get a distinctive “plane smell”. Regardrless, I hope you’re always using deodorant when you’re going anywhere!
Dove is always the brand that I seem to always go back to as it’s very subtle, gentle on my skin and its an anti-perspirant.
Dove: Invisible Dry Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Stick – £1.50
•PERFUME
This leads to perfume, I got this as a gift and found it so perfect as I can just bring it with me anywhere and it smells very fresh! I can’t find the link to this but there’s several body sprays and perfumes that I’m sure will do the trick for you!
•MASCARA
As I mentioned before, I don’t like wearing any make up but occasionally I’ll put on a subtle water-proof mascara that will make me look more awake yet looks very natural. These are my two favourites and I love taking them on holiday with me as they’re the perfect beach day mascaras!
Dior: Iconic Waterproof Mascara – £25
No7: Extreme Length Waterproof Mascara – £13.50
•SPF
I try to put sunscreen on daily as good practice, but this comes into more effect when you’re on an airplane. Many people might find the initial thought of this silly, but being a lot closer to the sun puts you at a higher risk from UV rays and from damage caused by the sun. I got this at a small store at the airport and always find it very handy not only to protect my skin but also to moisturise!
Soltan: Protect and Moisturise Face Cream – £4.50
•MOISTURISER
Another one of my all-time favourites. Cocoa butter is really rich and a great moisturiser and I love having a little one to grab to moisturise my arms and my hands, plus it smells just like chocolate!
Cocoa Butter: Cocoa Butter Formula £1.50 (link leads to a normal sized one rather than travel size!)
•AFTER-THOUGHTS: SCRUB
After my journey is over and I’ve arrived at my destination, I tend to wash my face with a cleanser or a scrub. Before my flight I do like to get samples from duty free so I can try new products and this way its easy for me to carry! This cleanser is super refreshing!
Origins: GinZing Refreshing Scrub Cleanser £15 (link and price relates to the 150ml product).
So there’s a look into my travel beauty bag! These are all my favourites that I’ve collected over the years and I have really found what works really well for me and my skin!
Do you have any products you can’t travel without?
Traveling soon? Why not check out my Rome Guide or my day at the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi!
I’m not sure if it is because of the cute package, but I prefer to have EOS lip balm wherever I go. I feel so cool whenever I take it out from my bag and use it, hahaha 🙂
Anyway, this post was super interesting! I always try to take care of my skin when I board on a plane but, even though I mostly have 12 hours of time, I always end up to avoid any good intention… I don’t know why, but I keep forgetting I have those products in my bag!

I also like to take a contact lens case (or two) in which I put different eye cream or moisturizers that I only need a little bit, to save room. They do a wonderful job and fit in easily. Enjoying your travel posts (I’m late to this one!)…

This is such a great practical list! have the worst tendency to overpack for vacation. I’ve got hair extensions and 4 foundations, and 9 primers, and false eyelashes, and then I end up not even showering let alone stepping out of the house looking like Ru Paul lol

Fab post. I now need to go shopping!! I’ve fallen in love with tropic tinted skin shade. It replaces my foundation when I travel as it’s factor 50 and I’m all for protecting my face these days!

And here I thought I was the only one walking around with Tea Tree sprays. Although I prefer lipstick to mascara and Jack Black’s Intense Therapy Lip Balm to Vaseline, these are definitely essentials!

Love learning more about beauty! I love tea tree oil as well! I used to use it the way you described, but now I used a diluted version as a tea tree oil serum. It’s amazing and you should definitely try it out if you like tea tree oil!

Thank you! I’ve never used it as a serum I’ve only used it as a spot treatment but I would definitely try that out!

I agree with chapstick being a must! One time I left my chapstick in my checked in suitcase, and my lips were drier than the Sahara desert haha!
