I did it! I completed my Bachelor’s degree! I finished my 3-year course (in Marketing Management for those that are curious) and embarked on a wonderful journey that not only changed my life but also changed me too. It’s such an exciting time of the year as so many new people are embarking on this new journey this year, and I am actually now going back to university to complete my master’s degree, I thought it would be a great time to reflect on a few things I learned at university.
At 19, I moved from Dubai to a whole different country (a decision that is actually quite common for Dubai students). I changed my environment by moving to London, whole different continent with no family. I embarked on a completely new journey, where I had to make new friends, a new home, a new education and had to increase my tolerance to the cruel British winter (my inner Dubai child squealed with happiness every time winter break came around and I got to go to the beach).
You’re Not Done Growing
In fact, you’re going to do the most amount of growing just now. At 19, I believed I knew everything I needed to know about myself, and whilst this was mostly correct, I knew myself then, as a 19-year-old. I then got to know myself as a different person in a new environment and got the chance to really test most of my own aspects. Embrace this. You’re never truly done growing and the best practice to adopt is to continuously let yourself grow and learn for the better.
Your Friendships Are Going To Change
And you’re also going to get new ones! This is one of those times where its bitter sweet. A lot of times you’ll just lose contact, others you won’t see as often, some will make you realise who your closest friends are.
It’s Okay To Be Homesick
Being homesick is natural if you live far from home, the hardest times for me are always on birthdays or on traditions that I miss out. It was hard for me to accept that it was okay to feel this way even though I chose to be away from home, it always makes going home ten times better!
Be Proactive
This can be done in two ways. Organisation and making the most of your time. You can read all about my top tips on staying organised here. Additionally, make the most of your time! Your summers will likely be long, so take this time to take some time off and have fun, but this is also a great time to do a short internship and get some experience! The world is super competitive and you want to stand out.
Do Things That Scare You
In a non-self-destructive way of course! Contact that company you want to work for, go skydiving, travel, start something you’re passionate about. This time is all about trial and error and learning!
Congratulations! You are so beautiful💕

Congrats on graduating, it’s surely an end to one part but the beginning of another. My graduation is still two years away, and right now I’m going for all hit and trials ;-), hoping to hit something right. And as far as learning something, I don’t know much but one thing I myself trying to learn is- living in the moment, not overthinking it and believing everything is for a reason and being confident that all will turn out exactly as I want it to. Because believing is the first step to something happening. 🙂 And yup if you get a chance do take a look at my blog and share with me your thoughts 😉 storyorthoughts.wordpress.com
